Prevention - A few easy steps.

There are few easy steps to foil a potential distraction burglary.

Most are simple things which do not cost any money.
Some can cost a little cash with huge benefits to the resident.

Before opening a door, always fit the door chain.

Check through the spy hole or side window who it is.
If you don't recognise who it is, do not open the door.

If they do not go away, phone a neighbour, friend or the Police ( not 999, but 0116 222 2222 )

Anyone from any utility company will have an identy card.
Ask for it !
They will not be offended.
Phone the number on the card or check in your telephone directory.
No utility company will ever come to your house without phoning or notifying you by letter.

If in doubt keep them out.

If you are satified that the caller is genuin, let them in but lock the door behind them and keep them within eysight.

Do not leave them alone !!!
