Shepshed & Hathern
LATEST NEWS - OPERATION EBONY - A metal theft enforcement day has taken place with various agencies in an ongoing operation to tackle the theft of metal and cable. The theft of metal and electrical cable has a significant impact on local communities and can impact on the local and national travel infrastructure with thefts from the rail network and electrical sub-stations. Leicestershire Police are determined to put a stop to it, but need information relating to suspicious activity involving scrap metal or large quantities of electrical cabling.
· Do you know someone who has started stockpiling scrap metal/cables?
· Do you know someone who is handling scrap metal/scrap cars?
· Have you seen suspicious activity where metal products are being moved/stripped?
If you have any information about the theft of any of the above contact Leicestershire Police on 0116 222 2222 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111

Mini moto campaign in Loughborough is a 'crushing' success.
14 motorbikes and mini-motos are being crushed after they were confiscated by police in Loughborough during a crack down on young people who drive dangerously and inconsiderately on roads, parks and public places
I have received the following warning from Trading Standards and am
sending to all NHW coordinators, and other likely recipients.
Leicestershire Trading Standards Officers have received a complaint
about a questionnaire delivered to householders in the Burbage area. This
questionnaire asks the householder to fill out a detailed form & leave
it outside the next day, when they would receive chocolates or have
the chance to win a car. The form includes personal details like full
name, address, date of birth, occupation and any benefit entitlement.
The questions include one asking about the household income, another
asking if they collect valuable coins, stamps etc and over 100 other
questions. These questions are probably designed to help subscribing
companies to target consumers. However people should be aware that leaving
this information available to any passer-by could help thieves to
target their victims by just picking up the forms from their doorstep.
David Bull, Head of Leicestershire County Council Trading Standards
Service said,
“I am sure that this marketing method is used to target consumers with
offers of goods & services. However, I am concerned that it can be
very easily collected on the doorstep by criminals intent on targeting
households for theft, identity fraud and other criminal activities. “
