Why carry one ?
Very simple. This simple device can be triggered in two ways.
The first is by manually pressing a button, the other is when the strap is pulled away from the casing.

In either case a loud high pitched alarm signal is sounded attracting unwanted attention to anyone who might be bothering you.

By attaching the strap to a camera or handbag handle, when these might be whisked away they will pull out the pin from the alarm setting the thing off.

Brilliant.
