Sawley Marina

Sawley Marina was identified as a hot spot area for Boat Crime and Theft From Motor Vehicles. WPC Anna Varley wanted to target this area, by visiting the Marina and talking to Boat owner's with a view of raising the need to be security conscious, not only with their Marine Craft but also their vehicles. To achieve this Police Volunteers roamed the marina and their car park highlighting to those people there the need to remove all valuables from view and to leave the vehicles secure.

Most appreciative.

The boat owners were very appreciative of the time given by the volunteers and welcomed the advise given out.
Many mobile phones were security marked with UV pens and contents of boats were marked with Smartwater. ( The liquid DNA ) Our Loughborough NHW office member Jim was pleased as punch with the high uptake of this wonderful deterrent.

Visitors wishing to take boat trips were also asked if they wanted to mark any valuable they were carrying and again all were very much in appreciation of the Volunteers efforts.

Sawley Marina

NHW Volunteers in action.

Officers from Shepshed were joined by Neighbourhood Watch volunteers. They spoke to drivers arriving at the marina about car and boat security.
They also distributed leaflets and security marked property with UV pens and Smartwater.
The Police said 'We want as few people as possible becoming a victim of crime, so we are working closely with the owners and visitors to raise awareness.

Sawley Marina general manager Rod Grant welcomed the Police drive. "While there are steps a marina operator can take, such as CCTV, security gates, lighting and physical security, it is important to balance the intrusiveness of some of these measures with providing a pleasant and relaxed environment."
