Superbike - 16,17 and 18th September
Over these three days volunteers were required to hand out leaflets on crime prevention.
This involved meandering across the camp-site and welcoming people on the various car parks.
This is a popular event where alas the general public needs to be made aware of the potential crime they can prevent by following some basic rules and practises.
Keep valuables out of site.
Lock your vehicles.
Do not leave valuables in tents and caravans.
Loads of occupiers of tents and camper vans were given information on how to remain crime free and loads of mobile phones were marked using UV pens.
The first day was a bit of a wash-out but seeing those brave riders in treacherous conditions was an awesome site.
Our sympathies to the ride who we saw come off on Copice Corner and bounce into the gravel trap.
Luckily only his pride was dented.
Friday 16th was wet, cold and windy. A few volunteers
with Susan Willett and two policeman, hit the Super
Bike Event. It was wet and very muddy. We used the
back of Sue's land rover as our 'Base' and off we went
to the Campsite. A few tents, no security people
around and a few wet and cold campers. Most of the
'Happy Campers' were still around, the majority were
watching the practice. We chatted to the few and gave
out our leaflets commiserated with them and left.
Saturday was dry, and windy. a lot more Volunteers,
plus some Army Cadets who helped a lot. The Caravan
had arrived and was being manned by the Police, a
Volunteer from Kegworth was also helping in the
Caravan and made us hot drinks, which were very
welcome. Numbers of people attending the event were
not high. Sunday, the sun shone and a lot of
Volunteers plus again some of the Army Cadets worked
the Car Parks, giving out Mirror Hangers and other
car safety advice leaflets.Over 3,000 leaflets were
used up over the weekend. We also helped a lot of
people, who had somehow got lost in the one way system
and were looking for the Sunday Market!
