Local people are in a unique position to help reduce local crime. You live or work in the area and know it better than anyone. You know the vulnerable groups and problem areas and keep in tune with the local concerns.
When you work together with other like-minded people and the police, you can make a difference to the area in which you live and to people's lives.
Using your eyes and ears makes you a good neighbour not a nosey parker. It's not to do with having a go, or putting yourself in danger.
Vigilance doesn't make you a vigilante. It's about taking an active part in cutting crime in your neighbourhood.
There are many Neighbourhood Watch Schemes currently running in our area. If you are interested in joining one of them, or setting up your own scheme, please contact the NHW Office on (0116) 2483079, or call in at your local police station and ask for details. Schemes are free to join, but a contribution of a couple of pounds towards signs is welcome.
Remember! If a friend or neighbour isn't watching your house - who is?
