Recording the results.

The team of volunteers get a simple form to fill in.

One person takes the reading from the speed gun.
A second person checks the numberplate.
Both of these are recorded on the attached document.

This has already been filled in with available information such as location, time and who is involved.

It also allows the operators to mark a box to indicate whether the driver was using amobile phone or not.
In cases where the Police see this, they are able to impose a £ 60 fine and have three point added to the person's driving licence.

The recorded information remains with the Neighbourhood Watch.
This information can be handed to the Police to show that a real problem exisits.
In the past the Police could not rely on the general public's 'perception' of speed and would need to go through the council to set up a monitoring station and only after analyzing these results a decision could possibly be made to act on these or not.

Now the Police have immediate results to their disposal to indicate to them that there is a real issue.
Whilst the Police can not trace those vehicle registration numbers, they can now be 'requested' to act and divert the official speed check vehicles to areas where these will be effective.
Readings taken from official speed camera's by the Police can then be used to impose fines and points.

To be honest, this is not the route we wish to take. The main aim is to remind locals....yes, local people,....that they are indeed travelling through a restricted zone and should adjust their speed accordingly.
